Scooter Training

If you have just bought a new scooter, the team at Riderskills™ can help you get the best out of your experience. We have designed a course specifically for scooter riders to develop good machine control and roadcraft that will greatly enhance the enjoyment and safety of your commuting.

The course lasts around an one and a half hours is conducted on your own scooter. Ask your dealer if they will deliver it to our training ground where we will get you off to a great start. All training and assessments are conducted by experienced instructors who are also keen bikers. Our venue is perfect for the purpose.

Course time approx. 1 1/2 hours

Note: Riders must supply their own scooter for this course.

This training course is uniquely targetted at the novice rider who wants to ride their scooter safely on the open road and in all traffic conditions. We ensure that the rider is equipped with the techniques required to start, stop and control their machine. Our patient and knowledgeable instructors will work with you to help you gain confidence with the scooter and build on your achievements. When you demonstrate proper control of your scooter we will take you out on the road where we can give you advice and instruction through a radio communication system.

Instruction is given on the following:


  • Scooters and their Controls
  • Basic safety checks and the use of stands
  • Wheeling the motorcycle and braking to a stop
  • Starting and stopping the engine
  • Riding in a straight line and stopping
  • Riding slowly
  • Using the brakes
  • Throttle control
  • Riding curves
  • U-Turns
  • Positioning for safety
  • Hazard Awareness
  • Defensive Riding

Licenced riders will be given some on-road assessment and tuition

Course Pre-Requisites:


  • You must be at least 16 years old
  • You must be able to ride a bicycle
  • You must provide identification and proof of age. Acceptable forms of ID
  • You must wear suitable clothing to minimise risk of injury and protect you from adverse weather conditions. In particular, footwear should be fully enclosed.
