Basic Handling Skills (experienced rider)

The basic handling skills course is the first step in your roadcraft and is designed to fit in with the graduated licensing system to enable the rider to develop their skills in a safe environment prior to undertaking the NZTA Basic handling skills assessment. On successful completion of the assessment the rider is presented with a certificate that can be used as part of the process to gain a learner licence.

The emphasis on this course is to consolidate core skills and specifically coach the rider through the exercises required for the basic handling skills test. At the end of the course the basic handling skills test will be conducted if the rider has shown the capability to ride up to test standard throughout the coaching phase.

Course time up to 1½ hours (test will be conducted within last 20 minutes for candidates that achieve the required level of proficiency)

All riders are welcome to use a bike from the well maintained Riderskills™ fleet at no extra charge, or alternatively bring your own motorcycle and we can help you to become familiar with it.
